A Governance-First Medical Association Website

ENGAGEMENT OVERVIEW

A Platform Built for Governance, Not Just a Public Website

A medical association website has to do more than inform the public when the organization behind it governs a global field. IBSES, the International Board of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, is the governing body for shoulder and elbow surgery worldwide, bringing together member societies, delegates, and leadership across many countries. Its existing site handled the public-facing basics, but the organization needed something built for how it actually operates: secure collaboration, institutional records, and role-based access for the people who run it. The opportunity was a platform designed around governance from the start.

We designed IBSES a governance-first medical association website on WordPress, built around a structured information architecture that organizes leadership directories, governance records, member societies, historical congress information, and future host applications. Role-based access gives public visitors, delegates, board members, and administrators exactly the entry they need, and centralized document management keeps institutional records in one place. It is built to scale, so IBSES can add content, records, societies, and new initiatives over time without adding administrative complexity.

THE OPPORTUNITY

IBSES is the international governing body for shoulder and elbow surgery, connecting member societies, delegates, and leadership around the world. As the organization grew, it needed more from its website than a public face. A governing body runs on collaboration, records, and clear lines of responsibility, and it needed a medical association website built to support all of that, not just to present information.

Its existing site covered the public-facing basics, but it wasn’t built for the operational side of a global organization. Governance documents, leadership information, historical records, and member resources all needed to be organized in a way that balanced easy access with security and long-term maintainability. Just as important, it had to stay straightforward to run for a volunteer-led organization, where the people administering it are surgeons and leaders, not full-time web staff.

The opportunity went beyond presenting information. IBSES needed one central place for governance records, member society information, leadership directories, historical congress details, and even future host applications, all without adding administrative complexity. That meant building a scalable governance framework from the start, one that could keep the organization’s information organized and accessible as it continued to grow.

OUR APPROACH

The opportunity went beyond presenting information. IBSES needed one central place for governance records, member society information, leadership directories, historical congress details, and even future host applications, all without adding administrative complexity. That meant building a scalable governance framework from the start, one that could keep the organization’s information organized and accessible as it continued to grow.

Information Architecture

We built a structured information architecture that organizes leadership directories, governance records, member societies, and congress history. Everything has a clear place, so people and content are easy to find.

Membership Website

We developed dedicated areas for leadership, delegates, and member societies. Each group gets the sections and resources relevant to its role in the organization.

WordPress Development

We built the platform on WordPress with custom content types for the way IBSES works. New records, societies, and initiatives can be added without disrupting what’s already there.

Website Governance

We set up governance workflows and standards to keep records and content consistent over time. That preserves institutional knowledge as leadership changes.

Role-Based Access

We gave public visitors, delegates, board members, and administrators access matched to their responsibilities. Sensitive governance material stays secure while the public site stays open.

Document Management

We centralized institutional documents and records in one managed place. Governance files stay organized, accessible to the right people, and easy to maintain.

THE IMPACT

IBSES now runs on a governance-first medical association website built for how a global governing body actually works. Leadership information, member societies, governance records, ICSES history, and future host applications all live in one scalable WordPress platform made for long-term administration.

This kind of project isn’t measured in traffic or conversions. Success here is a reliable institutional platform, one that supports governance, keeps organizational knowledge in one place, and stays simple to administer for a volunteer-led organization. What IBSES has now is a digital foundation built to grow with it, ready for new leadership, new member societies, and whatever the organization takes on next.
